Skyjo Action is a card game for 2 to 8 players, aged 8 and up. It is a variant of Skyjo, which introduces Action cards and Star cards. The goal remains the same: each player will try to finish the game with the fewest possible points.

Game Contents

  • 150 cards,
  • 1 notepad for scoring,
  • 1 rulebook

Principle and Goal of the Game

  • Skyjo Action is played over several rounds.
  • In each round, the player will try to reveal all their cards.
  • The numbers indicated on the revealed cards will be added to form the score obtained by the player.
  • As soon as a player reaches 100 points, the game ends.
  • The player who finishes the game with the lowest score will be declared the winner.

Setup

  • Take a sheet from the pad, and write down the names of all players.
  • Set the 3 blank cards aside.
  • Form a first pile with the Action cards.
  • Draw the first 4 cards, which you will spread out, face up, one by one near the pile.
  • Form a second pile with the numbered cards and the star cards.
  • Shuffle the cards.
  • Deal 12 cards to each player.
  • The rest will form the second draw pile.
  • The first card of the draw pile will be discarded; this is the discard pile.
  • Players must spread out their 12 cards, face down, on the table to form four columns of three cards.
  • Two cards will be revealed and the points obtained will be counted.
  • The player who has obtained the highest score starts the game.
  • Play clockwise.

How to play?

The player has four possibilities:

Draw a classic card

  • The drawn card will be studied.
  • If it suits them, it will be placed on their column of cards in exchange for a card, either face down or face up, which will be discarded.
  • If the drawn card does not suit them, it will be discarded.
  • A face-down card from their column of cards must then be revealed.
  • Note! If the revealed card is a Star card, it allows the player to choose an Action card from those visible or to draw from the Action pile.
  • The chosen Action card is placed near the column of cards.

Draw a card from the discard pile

  • They can choose the first card from the discard pile.
  • This will be exchanged for a card, face up or face down, from their column of cards.

Draw an Action card

  • The player can draw a card from the 4 cards spread out on the table.
  • The chosen card will be placed, face up, near their column of cards.
  • Any Action card taken must be replaced by drawing a card from the Action pile.

Play a special card received during a previous turn

  • The Action card must have already been placed near the player's column of cards.
  • To play it, it must be discarded.
  • A discarded Action card is placed at the end of the line of 4 visible Action cards.
  • The effect of the card is activated.
  • It is possible to discard an Action card as an action, without activating its effect.

A column of 3 identical cards

  • When a player reveals a column of three identical cards, these will be discarded.
  • In the Action variant, it is possible to discard a row of 4 identical cards.
  • Note! The Star card is considered a Wild card.
  • It can replace any card and allows you to create a column or row of identical cards.

End of the Round

  • When a player manages to reveal all their cards, the round ends.
  • The remaining players will be able to play one last turn.
  • They must, in turn, reveal their cards.
  • Any column or row of identical cards will be discarded.
  • The numbers indicated on the cards will then be added to obtain each player's score.
  • An Action card in play is worth 10 points.
  • A Star card in play is worth zero points.
  • The points will be recorded on the notepad, starting with players who did not manage to reveal all their cards.
  • Note! If the player who managed to reveal all their cards did not obtain the minimum score, their score is doubled.
  • A new round begins.

End of the Game

  • As soon as 100 points are reached or exceeded, the game ends.
  • The total points are calculated and the player who has accumulated the fewest will be declared the winner.
